Here at http://www.MOTB.co we don’t think we would be able to sell too many Ice Racing MINIs. Probably something to do with the climate but Jamaica had a Bob Sledding team so you never know. There have also been some questions as to what type of MINI do we have here as it looks nothing like anything we have delivered. Come in and visit or start a thread here as to what MINI you think this car started as.

If anyone knows a thing or two about high-speed travel, it’s Santa Claus. So when it comes to the whole globetrotting, breakneck-speed travel game, we’ll forgive you for thinking some things are best left to pros like him. Not that MINI agrees. With a lengthy legacy of snow-taming behin it, MINI is once again limbering up to spread some yuletide goodwill this holiday season.

This weekend, the MINI family begins an epic cross-continental trek from Milan, Italy, to the very edges of the Arctic Circle, in Finland’s Rovaniemi. And the convoy will be taking with it an avalanche-sized delivery of Christmas gift requests from adults and children the world over — so many, in fact, that MINI hopes to break yet another Guinness World Records title by delivering the longest wish list to Santa Claus (that would make three this year.) And with hopefuls from 16 countries across Europe, Asia and North America all putting in their yuletide orders, it sure sounds like Santa will have his work cut out this season.

But don’t worry, Santa. If the reindeer don’t quite make the grade this year, MINI is on hand to help. Three members of the MINI family will be making the voyage: MINI Clubman with its typically generous cargo capacity; MINI Countryman with its excellent off-road skills; and the MINI Hatch, master of the go-kart feeling.

If all that’s not enough, the arriving MINI will be welcomed by a true member of motorsport royalty: Rauno Aaltonen, winner of the legendary 1967 Monte Carlo Rally. He’ll be behind the wheel at Rovaniemi to prove that the best things never change, as he parks his historic Classic Mini and climbs aboard the new MINI Paceman to put it to the test.

Keep up with the ongoing MINI action from the snowy roads on Facebook and Twitter!

MINI is taking India’s streets by storm. As the 100th MINI market to open up around the world, celebrations are in full swing — and in ways only a culture as colorful as India can pull off, including the car’s official debut on the Bollywood silver screen. Crowds came out in full force to inaugural events hosted by the nation’s very first MINI dealership, located in the bustling megalopolis of Mumbai. India’s growing cities are infamous for their gridlock traffic jams, but packing a punch in a small package, MINI is a welcomed new choice for those who want to sneak through the bumper-to-bumper commute in many Indian cities and arrive in style.

Fast-paced and on everyone’s radar, India was an obvious pick for MINI’s symbolic one-hundredth international market launch. With Classic Mini and new generation alike making a splash on city streets and even starring in popular Bollywood films this year, don’t be surprised if you find a lot full of MINI Countryman parked outside the Taj Mahal or a pack of MINI Cooper Cabrio enjoying a beach drive in Goa in the near future.

Though MINI may be an iconic player for many neighborhoods around the world, it’s not nearly as recognized on Indian shores. For auto fans in India, this means that while still being perceived as design savvy and luxurious, MINI has the added charm of being a sophisticated expat with a slightly exotic character. While most high-end cars need to be big in order to make a statement in India, MINI garners respect by standing out from the crowd with its very special appearance. Tried and true across the globe for over half a century, Britain’s favorite little racer is now turning heads in its newest niche on the map.

Already poised as a clear new trendsetter on Mumbai’s busy streets, MINI is making red carpet debuts as well, including a couple silver screen appearances. The film industry in India has exploded in the last decade, with big budget Bollywood films reaching millions of domestic fans and large audiences abroad. One of 2012’s biggest Bollywood films, Players, is an official remake of the 2003 Hollywood blockbuster, The Italian Job. Famous for its trademark MINI chase scenes, the Italian Job film legacy continues with three Classic Mini reprising their high-throttle role in Players.

MINI isn’t only starring in action flicks. 2012’s summer Bollywood romantic comedy, Cocktail, features a hard-to-miss red MINI Cooper Cabrio with sporty black racing stripes. Cocktail is the story of three London flat mates whose friendship is tested when two get caught up in a spontaneous romance. Laughs, drama, and plenty of MINI glamour shots ensue in this summer comedy. Going beyond it’s starring on-screen role, MINI recently helped kick off the official Cocktail launch parties with Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty at the stunning new MINI showroom in Mumbai.

MINI isn’t just setting trends on the street. This dynamic billboard had passersby doing double takes.

The MINI legacy has been built around its community of loyal and passionate fans – notoriously well-traveled drivers with a honed sense of adventure. Now there’s an exciting new destination on the MINI map. In the few months since MINI India’s big launch, MINI fans across the country have expressed their enthusiasm and are starting to get organized. Maybe we’ll see some Indian license plates at the next big international MINI meetup!

This week from the MF Vault we’re re-visiting a couple of features we published last year giving opposing views on everyone’s favorite debate: auto vs manual. With a dramatically updated automatic coming with the F56 (to be introduced late next year) it’s perhaps a good time to renew our appreciation for that ever engaging piece of old-school technology know simply as “the stick”.

2011 MINI

It’s the right of passage many of us graduate to early in life that
quickly becomes a badge of honor. It’s the subtle cue to another
enthusiast that you’re serious about the art of driving and a student of
automotive history. In my mind there are cars that require a manual.

The M3s, 911s or even MCS’ of the world just don’t seem as
bare-chested with a pair of flappy paddles. And you know the moment.
When you peer into either of those cars and see that dreaded auto knob.
Your heart drops just a bit. If you’re a manual driver you care about
that car. And you know it’s been wronged by someone who chose ease over
interaction on the ordering spec (unless of course it’s a dedicated
track car).

So let’s be clear about it. The entire idea is laced with
testosterone, but you don’t actually need to be a man to own or drive
one. You simply need an attitude (and maybe at least figurative
attachments). It’s the option for control freaks who don’t mind a little
serendipity. In short, it’s a way of life.

Sure you need a little insanity to look at today’s congested roads
and choose a manual. But buying a new car with three pedals is a simple
decision that separates those of us in the know from those of us unable
to see through the monotony of daily life*.

Or just get two cars.

*Exclusions apply to anyone who cannot drive a manual due to injury or handicap.

**There at least a half dozen examples of DCT only cars (mostly
exotic) that clearly interest us and don’t necessarily fall into either
category above). That said we wished they came in manual form.

“Find Your City’s Pulse” is MINIs latest contest that asks MINI owners to submit photography, graphic design, illustration, or collage that captures the true essence of “pulse” of the city in which they live. The winner of the contest will be awarded a new MacBook Pro.

MINI used in art concept

The “Find You City’s Pulse” contest is part of MINI’s larger “Not Normal” marketing campaign which celebrates the quirkiness of both the MINI vehicle and its owner. The goal is “to see your city’s colorful underbelly and the people that help shape it: from action shots of urban artists at work and their graffiti-laden abandoned concrete canvases, to DJs and VJs and impromptu street parties, to the anonymous faces that serenade your morning commute.”

It seems that this clever contest will strengthen MINIs branded image as an urban-chic automobile, linking its drivers to the cities in which they drive. Kudos to MINI for creating another fun, interactive marketing campaign that will certainly appeal to its target audience. All submissions will be showcased on MINIspace.com. Click HERE for more details!

First Place: MacBook Pro
Second Place: iPhone 5
Third Place: iPad Mini
Popular Vote Prize: Polaroid Instant Digital Camera
