Extreme sports performance, inimitable style: The MINI John Cooper Works Paceman..

We’re trying not to get too excited about the new Paceman here at Ferman MINI of Tampa Bay (WWW.MOTB.CO) as we still have to concentrate making space for these new models.  Come and take a shopping spree here in Palm Harbor Florida

@MINI Paceman

The MINI John Cooper Works Paceman celebrates its world premiere at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit in January 2013; its market launch will follow in March 2013. The new arrival swells the John Cooper Works ranks to seven models. The MINI John Cooper Works Paceman’s driving characteristics and design ensure it will stand out from the crowd in city traffic, as well as being the car of choice when maximum driving fun over longer distances is the order of the day. Instantaneous power delivery and an unquenchable appetite for revs define the engine under the bonnet of the MINI John Cooper Works Paceman. The turbocharged power unit teams up with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard; a six-speed automatic can be ordered as an option.

The MINI John Cooper Works Paceman sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 6.9 seconds with either of the gearbox variants. Yet despite this intoxicating turn of speed, fuel economy is exemplary for its output class. The MINI John Cooper Works Paceman posts average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of 7.4 litres (automatic: 7.9 litres) per 100 kilometres / 38.2 (35.8) mpg imp.

The distinctive character of the MINI John Cooper Works Paceman is underlined by bespoke design features. Standard specification includes an aerodynamic kit, 18-inch light-alloy wheels, a sports exhaust system with chrome tailpipes, and door sills bearing the John Cooper Works logo. As well as white and black, the exclusive Chili Red paint finish can also be specified as an option for the contrast-colour roof and exterior mirror caps. And customers can also lend an extra edge to the typical John Cooper Works sports car feeling inside the car with bespoke accents such as Chili Red interior trim strips.

The engine: dynamism in spades, fuel consumption in sips thanks to racing expertise and MINIMALISM technology.
The MINI John Cooper Works Paceman draws its power from a 1,598 cc four-cylinder engine. The latest generation of the John Cooper Works turbocharged unit blends motor sport-inspired technical details with cutting-edge innovations developed by the BMW Group’s powertrain experts. Highlights include reinforced pistons, low-weight crankshafts, an aluminium cylinder block and bearing mounts, and further optimisation of the cooling system, air supply and exhaust gas discharge system. Plus, the turbocharger is twinned with a generously sized intercooler. The twin-scroll turbocharger joins forces with petrol direct injection and variable valve control based on the BMW Group’s VALVETRONIC technology, which optimises both the engine’s efficiency and its responsiveness.

The MINI John Cooper Works Paceman’s powerplant develops its maximum output of 160 kW/218 hp at 6,000 rpm. Peak torque of 280 Newton metres (207 lb-ft) is on tap between 1,900 and 5,000 rpm, and can be increased to 300 Newton metres (221 lb-ft) for short periods between 2,100 and 4,500 rpm using the overboost function. This opens the door to gratifyingly vivacious acceleration to which the standard-fitted sports exhaust system provides a suitably stirring soundtrack.

ALL4 all-wheel drive as standard, six-speed automatic gearbox optional.
The MINI John Cooper Works Paceman channels the extraordinary power produced by its front-mounted transverse engine through all four wheels as standard. The ALL4 all-wheel-drive system developed for MINI uses an electromagnetic centre differential to distribute drive seamlessly between the front and rear axles. This means power is always sent to the wheels where it can be translated most effectively into forward propulsion. In normal driving situations ALL4 diverts a maximum 50 per cent of the engine’s power to the rear wheels, rising to as much as 100 per cent in extreme conditions. This provides a traction-led expression of the handling talents for which MINI is famed – whatever the weather and road conditions. The control electronics of the MINI ALL4 system are integrated directly into the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) management unit, which gives ALL4 extremely short response times and allows it to carry out proactive adjustments in the distribution of drive. The system uses the data collected by DSC to tweak the power split pre-emptively and to impressive effect through dynamically taken corners, for example. And that means the driver enjoys outstanding agility combined with surefooted driving characteristics in customary MINI style.

The MINI John Cooper Works Paceman can be ordered as an option with a six-speed automatic gearbox as an alternative to the standard-fitted six-speed manual. Both the transmissions and the manual’s clutch have been adapted to handle the engine’s impressive power and play their part in ensuring outstanding performance coupled with further improvements in efficiency. The automatic’s Steptronic function, meanwhile, gives the driver the option of changing gear manually using the selector lever on the centre console or the shift paddles on the steering wheel.

The choice of gearbox has no effect on the sprinting power of the MINI John Cooper Works Paceman. The new car dashes from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a trifling 6.9 seconds, regardless of whether the engine is sending its power through the manual or automatic conduit. Top speed stands at 226 (140 mph) for the manual version or 224 km/h (139 mph) for the automatic. The MINI John Cooper Works Paceman marries this impressive performance with eye-catching economy. The engine’s inherent efficiency and extensive MINIMALISM technology – such as Brake Energy Regeneration, the Gear Shift Indicator and the Auto Start/Stop function (on manual cars) – are the trump cards here. Average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is 7.4 litres (automatic: 7.9 litres) per 100 kilometres / 38.2 (35.8) mpg imp, and CO2 emissions come in at 172 (184) grams per kilometre.

Developed to deliver visceral racing thrills: chassis, aerodynamics, design and interior tuned to John Cooper Works specification.
Another key player in giving the MINI John Cooper Works Paceman its sky-high levels of driving fun is chassis technology optimised specially for the new model; a MacPherson spring-strut front axle, central-arm rear axle, Electric Power Steering and an extremely high-performance braking system make a potent team. The standard sports suspension has a dynamically optimised spring/damper set-up and stronger anti-roll bars, and is lowered by 10 millimetres. The standard DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system also comprises DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) mode.

And the likewise standard Sport Button on the centre console allows the driver to tweak the engine’s responses and soundtrack, as well as the power assistance provided by the steering. If the automatic gearbox is specified, pressing the Sport Button also quickens up shift times. 18-inch light-alloy wheels in Twin Spoke Black Burnished design with polished spoke fronts and black rim wells are standard on the MINI John Cooper Works Paceman. Among the items on the options list are exclusive 19-inch light-alloy wheels in Cross-Spoke Crusher design.

The extrovert design of the MINI John Cooper Works Paceman gives the first Sports Activity Coupé in the compact segment a dynamic presence, brimming with forward-surging intent and agility – before it even turns a wheel. The powerfully formed front end, elegantly sporty, stretched lines of the flanks, coupé-style roof swooping downwards towards the rear, and broad rear end of the three-door car all ooze sporting allure. And the aerodynamic kit fitted as standard on the MINI John Cooper Works Paceman shines extra light on this performance-maxing character. The particularly muscular form of the front and rear aprons and bespoke side skirts ensure the airflow around the car is even more efficient. John Cooper Works logos on the radiator grille, tailgate and door sill strips as well as next to the side indicators provide additional confirmation of the car’s identity. Customers can choose from nine exterior paint finishes, including the Chili Red shade reserved for the John Cooper Works model. Chili Red is also available exclusively for the MINI John Cooper Works Paceman’s contrast-colour roof, exterior mirror caps and Sport Stripes.

Inside the car, the distinctive interior design combines with the customary sports car ambience of John Cooper Works models to particularly alluring effect. The rear compartment of the MINI John Cooper Works Paceman features a pair of individual seats in which the rear passengers can enjoy that unmistakable racing feeling in lounge-style surroundings. A sports steering wheel with red contrast stitching and John Cooper Works logo, dark-coloured dials for the 260 km/h (160 mph) speedometer and rev counter, anthracite-coloured roof liner, gearshift lever with red shift pattern lettering, red contrast stitching for the gearshift lever gaiter and floor mats with red stitching are all part of the standard equipment count for the new extreme sports model, as are cloth sports seats in Diagonal Track John Cooper Works Carbon Black trim with red contrast stitching. Lounge Leather sports seats in Carbon Black Championship Red are available as an option. Standard Piano Black interior trim strips add the finishing touches to the racing-inspired aura inside the MINI John Cooper Works Paceman. Exclusive Chili Red trim – consisting of red elements for the cockpit and doors and a red stripe for the black trim strips on the centre console – can be ordered as an option.

MINI is taking India’s streets by storm. As the 100th MINI market to open up around the world, celebrations are in full swing — and in ways only a culture as colorful as India can pull off, including the car’s official debut on the Bollywood silver screen. Crowds came out in full force to inaugural events hosted by the nation’s very first MINI dealership, located in the bustling megalopolis of Mumbai. India’s growing cities are infamous for their gridlock traffic jams, but packing a punch in a small package, MINI is a welcomed new choice for those who want to sneak through the bumper-to-bumper commute in many Indian cities and arrive in style.

Fast-paced and on everyone’s radar, India was an obvious pick for MINI’s symbolic one-hundredth international market launch. With Classic Mini and new generation alike making a splash on city streets and even starring in popular Bollywood films this year, don’t be surprised if you find a lot full of MINI Countryman parked outside the Taj Mahal or a pack of MINI Cooper Cabrio enjoying a beach drive in Goa in the near future.

Though MINI may be an iconic player for many neighborhoods around the world, it’s not nearly as recognized on Indian shores. For auto fans in India, this means that while still being perceived as design savvy and luxurious, MINI has the added charm of being a sophisticated expat with a slightly exotic character. While most high-end cars need to be big in order to make a statement in India, MINI garners respect by standing out from the crowd with its very special appearance. Tried and true across the globe for over half a century, Britain’s favorite little racer is now turning heads in its newest niche on the map.

Already poised as a clear new trendsetter on Mumbai’s busy streets, MINI is making red carpet debuts as well, including a couple silver screen appearances. The film industry in India has exploded in the last decade, with big budget Bollywood films reaching millions of domestic fans and large audiences abroad. One of 2012’s biggest Bollywood films, Players, is an official remake of the 2003 Hollywood blockbuster, The Italian Job. Famous for its trademark MINI chase scenes, the Italian Job film legacy continues with three Classic Mini reprising their high-throttle role in Players.

MINI isn’t only starring in action flicks. 2012’s summer Bollywood romantic comedy, Cocktail, features a hard-to-miss red MINI Cooper Cabrio with sporty black racing stripes. Cocktail is the story of three London flat mates whose friendship is tested when two get caught up in a spontaneous romance. Laughs, drama, and plenty of MINI glamour shots ensue in this summer comedy. Going beyond it’s starring on-screen role, MINI recently helped kick off the official Cocktail launch parties with Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty at the stunning new MINI showroom in Mumbai.

MINI isn’t just setting trends on the street. This dynamic billboard had passersby doing double takes.

The MINI legacy has been built around its community of loyal and passionate fans – notoriously well-traveled drivers with a honed sense of adventure. Now there’s an exciting new destination on the MINI map. In the few months since MINI India’s big launch, MINI fans across the country have expressed their enthusiasm and are starting to get organized. Maybe we’ll see some Indian license plates at the next big international MINI meetup!

“Find Your City’s Pulse” is MINIs latest contest that asks MINI owners to submit photography, graphic design, illustration, or collage that captures the true essence of “pulse” of the city in which they live. The winner of the contest will be awarded a new MacBook Pro.

MINI used in art concept

The “Find You City’s Pulse” contest is part of MINI’s larger “Not Normal” marketing campaign which celebrates the quirkiness of both the MINI vehicle and its owner. The goal is “to see your city’s colorful underbelly and the people that help shape it: from action shots of urban artists at work and their graffiti-laden abandoned concrete canvases, to DJs and VJs and impromptu street parties, to the anonymous faces that serenade your morning commute.”

It seems that this clever contest will strengthen MINIs branded image as an urban-chic automobile, linking its drivers to the cities in which they drive. Kudos to MINI for creating another fun, interactive marketing campaign that will certainly appeal to its target audience. All submissions will be showcased on MINIspace.com. The third generation of the modern MINI Cooper will spawn a new five-door variant when it goes on sale next year, as confirmed by these latest spy shots of a prototype for the more family friendly MINI.

On initial glance the prototype looks similar to previous mules for the regular 2014 MINI Cooper three-door, but it clearly features four doors and what looks to be a conventional rear hatch–making this a five-door.

Centrally-mounted exhaust tips also confirm that this is the slightly sportier Cooper S version of the new MINI five-door. We suspect prototypes for the Cooper version will crop up soon.

To accommodate the extra doors, MINI’s designers have stretched the wheelbase. It also appears they’ve raised the height of the roof in order to maximize interior space.

We’ve previously reported on the five-door MINI Cooper, which is likely to replace the suicide-door-equipped Clubman. It’s not clear whether this model will pick up the Clubman name or be called something entirely else.

MINI is hoping the increased flexibility will make its new 2014 Cooper range appeal to a wider audience and boost sales beyond last year’s tally of roughly 285,000 units for the previous generation. Note, despite the additional set of doors, the rear seats will still only be suitable for small children, so parents with a couple of teens best look elsewhere or at least have a second car if a MINI is a must.

Under the hood will be BMW’s latest three-cylinder engine family. In the U.S., base Cooper models will get a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine with around 121 horsepower and 133 pound-feet of torque. Cooper S models will get a more potent version of this engine, which most likely will match the 181-horsepower rating of the outgoing version.

Look for the debut of the new 2014 MINI Cooper range in the first half of next year, with this five-door variant, whatever it’s called, to arrive shortly after.

The original Mini was revolutionary on a number of fronts. But one that is often forgotten is the unique rubber springs used on the car. The combination of conical rubber springs and small wheels was one of the many innovative developments which allowed design Alec Issigonis to achieve the Mini’s small overall size. And the man who created it, Dr. Alex Moulton, went on to work designing both bicycle and automotive suspensions to great acclaim.

Moulton later went onto create the Hydrolastic system for MINI that connected the front and rear wheel pair on each side of the car giving the Mini a shockingly soft and level ride despite it’s wheelbase.

In various interviews over the past few months, BMW executives have hinted at grand plans for the UKL platform. Reported by both MotoringFile and BimmerFile, the UKL platform will spawn an onslaught of FWD models. This will make MINI more long-term viable and will drive the BMW Group to greater economies of scale. Yet just how far BMW is willing to go with FWD, and how big the MINI brand will get hasn’t really been understood until recently.

BMW has plans — BIG plans — for such a small automaker. According to several sources (and recently coraborated by “Scott27″ — our favorite inside source), the BMW board has given approval for a number of front wheel drive models in both the BMW and MINI lineups. Surprisingly, this even includes a MINI four door sedan. According to those who’ve seen the proposal, it’s an extremely attractive car that leverages the MINI floating roof and wrap-around glass. Apparently, the rear is similar to the Paceman, with sculpted front lines reminiscent of the 2008 MINI Crossover Concept. However, this variation of the MINI design language will be unique to this sedan, letting most of the rest of the lineup continue to follow the visual lead of the F56 hardtop hatch.

The MINI sedan is just the start of further model expansion. There will be several crossovers and utility vehicles, as well as sporting coupes and convertibles. Here’s the list for both BMW and MINI as we currently understand it, keeping in mind some of the details may change.

  1. BMW 1er Urbanic Compact 3/5dr – Upcoming City hatch based on the next MINI, making it BMW’s Audi A1 rival.
  2. MINI 3/5dr hatch – Increased demand for utility leads to the next generation MINI, due next year, to feature available five doors for the 1st time.
  3. BMW 1-series Sedan – Baby sedan based on the UKL architecture and aimed at global markets for small five seaters.
  4. MINI Sedan – A sporty four door MINI aimed at further growing the market for MINIs. Could potentially be MINI’s best seller worldwide, overtaking the Countryman.
  5. BMW 1-series Active Tourer – Production version of Active Tourer Concept launched at IAA 2013.
  6. MINI Traveller – MINI’s version of the Active Tourer. It’s designed to show how both cars can co-exist with individual style and flexibility.
  7. BMW 1-series Urbanic Roadster – BMW’s open top version of the City Car will inherit two seats and will feature a rear deck with layered butresses like the BMW 6-series Cabrio and BMW i8. These are designed for clip on roof panel.
  8. MINI Convertible – The F56-generation version of the popular 4-seat, open top MINI.
  9. BMW Z1 Sportster – To provide greater economies of scale, The Z1 will be BMW’s equivalent to the MINI Coupe and Roadster. It will be FWD and powered by more powerful three cylinder engines than what we’ll find in the MINI range. The design is derived from the well-received 2011 Vision ConnectedDrive concept car.
  10. MINI Roadster – The next Roadster and Coupe will launch with a sportier look completely separate from the standard MINI. MINI design language will remain but the bodywork will no longer be based on the hardtop hatch.
  11. BMW Z1 Sport Coupe – A coupe version of the Z1 will complete the BMW Z twins.
  12. MINI Coupe – Coupe version of Roadster, and as mentioned above, more individual in appearance than the standard hardtop hatch.
  13. BMW X1 – Next generation of BMW’s highly successful SAV moves to the UKL architecture to offer more flexibility, including xDrive.
  14. MINI Countryman – Next generation of the global MINI juggernaut, the Countryman will finally share its underpinnings with BMW X1.
  15. BMW X2 – Sport Activity Coupe variant of the next BMW X1 , FWD with optional xDrive and the first BMW SAC to appear as both a 3dr and 5dr. Think of it as the BMW version of the MINI Paceman.
  16. MINI Paceman and Paceman XL – Next generation of newest MINI member will be offered with the current 3-door version, as well as a 5-door.
  17. BMW Family Activity Sports Tourer – BMW’s hybrid of an SAV and MPV, the FAST will feature a “touring” bodystyle and aim to sew up the small, luxury people carrier segment.
  18. MINI Clubman – Current car revisited with more style and more flexibility. Anticipated as more of a Shooting Brake with dynamic raked roof and forward looking proportions.
  19. Next Generation BMW 1 Series Sedan – Due in 2017 and is expected with both front and all wheel drive available.

However, for all this FWD, BMW isn’t giving up small rear wheel drive cars. In fact BMW and BMW M have big plans for the 2 Series range. Specifically BMW M will base a car on the 2-series with a Gran Coupe variant of the 2-series Coupe. Adding two extra doors to a slightly longer wheelbase and roofline, the Gran Coupe will set itself apart. This car will be BMW’s answer to the Mercedes-Benz CLA, but in a more enthusiast friendly RWD form. The 2-series Coupe will also form the foundation of what will effectively be the second generation 1M. Here’s the full rundown of future small, rear wheel drive cars from BMW:

  • BMW 2-series Coupe – Coupe version of the 1-series hatch. Unique front and rear style, with a sleeker, rounded roof. Yet still in compact proportions. Premieres at IAA 2013.
  • BMW 2-series Cabrio – Soft top version retains the unique appearance of the 2-series Coupe.
  • BMW 2-series Gran Coupe – A 4-door addition of 2-series Coupe with slightly lengthened wheelbase and roof line. It’s aimed to position BMW’s RWD as dominant over the Audi A3 Sedan and Mercedes-Benz CLA.
  • BMW 2-series Gran Sports Tourer – A Hyundai Veloster-type, asymmetrical touring coupe inspired by the classic BMW 2002 Touring variant. This car has many admirers in Munich.
  • BMW M2 Coupe – Successor to the BMW 1-series M Coupe, the M2 Coupe continues the same formula that made the last car so memorable. While no huge competitor in the HP race, four cylinder will bring less weight, which matters most in a car of this type. More driving enjoyment and overall feel is considered of higher priority than who has the biggest horsepower numbers.
  • BMW M2 Gran Coupe – The baby Gran Coupe inherits a lot from its four door big brother: 340 HP, Four doors and RWD. It will be a direct competitor to the Mercedes-Benz CLA 45AMG.

via MotoringFile » Archive » A BMW Insider Weighs in on Upcoming MINI Models.

Frequent MotoringFile commenter and known BMW insider, Herr26, left us a interesting comment yesterday on our recent post regarding upcoming MINI models. As with all of his comments (here or BimmerFile) don’t take it as fact but perhaps great insight about a moment in time within BMW. In the past we’ve seen many of his proven right but also some proven wrong simply because plans changed within the company.

All that said its well worth a read, so we’re reposting it here. In it, there’s lots of interesting tidbits regarding future MINIs:

  • The MINI Spacebox aka the Traveller that will be essentially a larger version of the Clubman based on the recently announced BMW Active Tourer pictured above
  • MINI four door sedan
  • MINI Activity Tourer which could be something of a larger four door Pacemen with an extremely raked look
  • MINI Sports car aka the next generation coupe and roadster which could seeing more variation from the look o the standard MINI

Catch the full comment after the break.

The next MINI concept will be a cross-over destined to show how BMW and MINI can co-exist. Entirely based on the Active Tourer the MINI variant goes with familiar MINI aspects such as enhanced MINI family design and quirky features such as club doors but with the emphasis on space and light. As the vehicle utilises an allround glasshouse and large panorama roof for an enhanced spatial feel It is the vehicle destined to become the MINI TRAVELLER and follows the same creative approach as the BMW by re-interpreting an existing concept into their own brand philosophy. Whilst the BMW aims for a very dynamic appearance with intelligent thinking the MINI will appeal more to the MINI heartland and especially those who need more space and flexibility. One clever addition is the incorporating of a Rolls-Royce type wrap around lounge seat in the rear.

To describe the MINI it is very much like an enlarged clubman and alongside the Active Tourer you would never guess they are practically the same car . But that is BMW’s intentions that MINI and BMW can and will co-exist. Appearances will differ as will how they will drive as BMW sets out to show that MINI and BMW can co-exist. Both the MINI Traveller and BMW Active Tourer enter a market that is growing as more european customers are turning to cross-overs in needs of greater flexibility. The Mercedes-Benz B-Klasse has shown that premium can work within such a segment and the two concept attack by BMW and MINI has spurned Audi into action as the segment is expected to grow by around 45-50% and BMW expects both the MINI and BMW to take a significant result from that growth.

The interesting aspect in terms of design language of the BMW Active Tourer is that if you shrink the car and change the front and rear end you get a very close look of the next MINI’s sister the City Compact. The MINI sedan is also moving ahead with some quarter scale models being built for first evaluations. Looking like a mixture of Maserati and even a mini-Rolls-Royce the car is advancing with some typical MINI ideas being expanded on as slimmer, elongated MINI-esque lights at the front or the conventional cornered lights , trapezoid rear lights and floating roof , its far too early to get a definite answer on what it will look like , but some of the ideas are so far overly impressive , some even incorporating the rear hinged doors which bodes to my impression of a MINI Rolls-Royce. The stumbling block here is what to do with BMW. As BMW are currently at work on a elongated four door of the upcoming 2er Coupe model to bring into line amongst the 6er Gran Coupe and upcoming 4er Gran Coupe aimed at the Mercedes CLA and Audi A3 Sedan. A FWD 4dr BMW would be counter-productive as the appeal of a RWD model would be far greater.

The next BMW FWD model is an intelligent approach on the SAV, MPV and Touring. This can fully be described as a cross-over because it features the robust solidity of an SAV in its appearance, The space feel of an MPV and the cargo capability as a Touring and you can add Coupe to that mix because of its dynamic sloping rear end.

Dubbed the F.amily A.ctivity S.ports T.ourer or FAST for short it aims to offer an intelligent approach to a cross-over which combines every need with optional xDrive. One thing learned is that there are a lot more customers using their cars for more than their basic needs. In todays market it has shown that customers now shun conventional concepts in light of more unconventional choices, such as MPVs over Sedans, Crossovers instead of hatches and so on.

FAST offers a variation in one concept with universal appeal. FAST will also be the first BMW model (after BMW i3) to offer rear hinged doors as the FAST shares with a similar MINI Concept which I originally thought it was the Paceman is actually the MINI Activity Tourer.

The MINI Activity Tourer brings the more raked look from the PACEMAN , but to a five door concept. Again sharing with the BMW FAST it aims to offer a variation on the MINI theme by offering a more sporting space concept but developed for a more active lifestyle. For a more stylish MINI appearance rear hinged doors will open up the cabin for easy entry/exit on the beach or on the slopes.

The MINI Sports car idea is a variation on the theme of actual Coupe/Roadster and how that for the second generation and in that the whole MINI family. Is that if you take the Countryman it has proved that MINI can stand alone in seperate individual concepts. And now is the opportunity for the MINI family to expand further on styling and individuality.

The current MINI , Coupe , Clubman and Roadster are all variants of the same look. the next generation should form their own unique identity but still be recognisable as a MINI. The Countryman has achieved this and the replacements for the MINI Coupe and Roadster should also follow this by making them completely distinguishable from the conventional standard MINI with more individuality and sportier styling. MINI’s unique selling point is that they are cars with character , they expand on ideas in an unconventional way and yet they deliver cars which drive with a fun-factor missing from many proposed sporting hatches or coupes.

The next generation through their enhanced sharing with BMW retains that fun factor with a dynamic edge but never forgetting that go-kart like character. BMW are aiming at a more sporting edge aimed at the more premium end of the market , despite the concept whether it is FWD or a Active Tourer etc it has too feel as direct and communicative as a BMW. BMW knows that for this new generation of compact vehicles is that for everything to work they have to be everything the other is not and that individuality is just as important as design.

Something the engineers have achieved, I cannot wait till you find out how this jigsaw goes together.

Thanks, Herr26. We always appreciate your perspective.
